Menu Planning 101=Save $$$

If I told you I have a proven method that would save you money at the grocery store, you probably wouldn't believe me. Especially when I tell you it's simple and free! More importantly, it is used through-out the restaurant industry and generates billions of dollars for every one of them.

What it requires from you is planning. If you take an hour each week and practice these simple suggestions, you will save money.
Begin with taking an "inventory" of what food items you have on hand. It's important that you realize you will need a few basics: general spices, milk, eggs, butter, ketchup, etc.
After that, take that hour I referred to and sit down with paper and pencil and write out your weekly menu. While raising my children, I used this practice and found it to be very lucrative, even fun as my children got older and were included in the planning and purchasing each week.

Establish a general meat base: ground beef, chicken, pork chops
Take those items and create a weekly (7 day) menu. Make sure to change up the selection daily so as not to make everyone cringe when they think of chicken!
For example: Monday-meatloaf (I used this at least once a month because I could easily prepare it Sunday and pop it in the oven when I got off work) Tuesday-Spaghetti Wednesday-Pan Fried thin Pork Chops Thursday-Chicken Fingers Friday-Pizza

Once you have decided what you will have, then add the side dishes. I always tried to create a menu that would offer nutrition as well as a "balance" for my family. Meatloaf Monday/ mash potatoes, green beans Tuesday/ Spaghetti. salad & french bread and so on.

When I finished with the menu, I always posted it on the refrigerator. Everyone knew what we would be having for dinner, and I knew exactly what I needed to buy at the grocery store.

They "key" to saving money is to buy ONLY what you need to produce your menu each week. Go to the store once a week, don't get caught stopping in several times to pick up this or that. You have to discipline yourself to do these things and when you do, you will save money.

This is how all restaurants operate. They create a menu utilizing foods they can use in different ways without having to buy additional items.

I hope this has been helpful. If so, I encourage you to visit me at: blogger.mrsg@gmail.com and I would be happy to tell you how to order "Meals For Busy Moms". All the dishes can be prepared in 30 minutes or less and I included tips to make life easier for Busy Moms and Moms-On-The-Go!
